** Van I. Renoe

HAMPTON — Van I. Renoe, 56, died Friday (April 3, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hampton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry McCann officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

Van I. Renoe was born Dec. 8, 1941, in St. Charles.

Survivors include his wife, Diann Renoe, of Hampton; three sons, James W. Renoe of Grove, Okla., Jonathan I. Renoe of Norfolk, Neb., and Michael F. Renoe of Hampton; his mother, Susanna Renoe of Hampton; one sister, Nancy Williams of Minneapolis; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father.

** Lucena Truax

BRISTOW — Lucena Truax, 74, died Sunday (April 5, 1998) at the Dows Care Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Dumont.

** Everista Hatten

BANCROFT — Everista Hatten, 88, died Saturday (April 4, 1998) at the Heritage Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church with the Rev. John Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Everista Hatten was born May 6, 1909, in Bancroft.

Survivors include two sisters, Dolores Kaproth of Foley, Minn., and Kathleen Stade of Trimont, Minn.; and two brothers, Arnold Hatten of Austin, Minn., and Jim Hatten of Bancroft.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

** Hilda Nemmers

BANCROFT — Hilda Nemmers, 92, died Saturday (April 4, 1998) at the Stone Hill Care Center, Dubuque.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church with the Rev. John Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, where there will be a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 3 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Hilda Nemmers was born July 20, 1905, in Bancroft.

Survivors include two daughters, Malverne Sullivan of Elmhurst, Ill., and Sister Michelle Nemmers of Dubuque; two sons, Larry Nemmers of Bancroft and the Rev. Frank Nemmers of Larchwood; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Recker of Manchester, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.

** Linda Kay Wessels

ROCKWELL — Linda Kay Wessels, 38, died Saturday (April 4, 1998) at the Woodward State Hospital, Woodward.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 120 S. 3rd St., Rockwell. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald Bolinger of St. Peter Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from noon until service time at the funeral home.

Linda was born June 5, 1959, at Belmond, the daughter of Larry Wessels and Phyllis Nissen Wessels. She lived in Klemme with her father and grandmother until age 9 when she moved to Woodward, where she had lived since.

Linda is survived by her father, Larry, and his wife, Carol Wessels, of Rockwell; her mother, Phyllis, and her husband, Leo Branchaud, Minneapolis, Minn.; her paternal grandmother, Hermanda Wessels, Klemme; her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Nissen, Iowa City; one sister, Mary Jo, and her husband, Lynn Brady, Creston; three brothers, Brian Wessels, St. Louis, Mo., Bruce and his wife, Brenda Wessels, Eau Claire, Wis., and Brad Wessels, Owatonna, Minn.; one niece, Holly; and one nephew, Joshua Brady.

She was proceeded in death by her grandfathers, Fred Wessels and Cy Nissen

** Kenneth R. Coe

VENTURA — Kenneth R. Coe, 81, died Saturday (April 4, 1998) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ventura United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Burial will be in the Ventura Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

** Willis 'Bill' Priske

HUBBARD — Willis Priske, 64, died suddenly on Saturday afternoon (April 4, 1998) at his farm home north of Hubbard, of a massive heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard. Burial will be in the Hubbard Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Boeke Funeral Home, 501 E. Maple St., Hubbard, Iowa 50122.

Willis "Bill" Priske was born on Jan. 7, 1934 in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. He was one of six children born to Francis and Anna (Studer) Priske.

Bill started attending school in Steamboat Rock, but the family moved to a farm northeast of Hubbard, after a fire burned their home. Bill then attended Tipton Township #6 "Victor" School and graduated from Hubbard High School with the Class of 1952.

On April 16, 1955, Bill was united in marriage to Mary Hoaglin at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa. They lived in Hubbard, where he farmed with his father.

He soon began farming on his own, on the Lundy farm, which he farmed for several years. In the mid 1960's, they bought the farm where Bill resided until his death.

Bill spent many years trucking, driving for Pete Edgerton, Eldon Balvanz and Jim Carpenter, as well as, driving his own truck.

Those thankful for having shared his life include his wife, Mary, of Hubbard; three daughters, Connie Priske, of Mason City; Barbara Anderson, of Ackley; and Liz Prochaska, of Eldora; five grandchildren, Holly, Amber, Aaron and Justin Petersen and Tayler Prochaska; two sisters, Julie Little and Norma Boyken, both of Waterloo; one brother, Jim Priske, of Eldora; along with many other relatives and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marge Moline; and one brother, Robert Priske.

Let us give thanks for the life and memory of Willis Joe Priske.

** Robert B. Bergland

MASON CITY — Robert B. "Bob" Bergland, 83, of 218 4th N.E., Mason City, died Monday (April 6, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Arrangements are incomplete at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City.

** Kenneth R. Coe

VENTURA — Kenneth R. Coe, 81, of Ventura, died Saturday (April 4, 1998) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ventura United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Burial will be in the Ventura Cemetery.

Kenneth R. Coe was born Oct. 31, 1916, in Mason City, the son of Wilbur and Blanche (Porter) Coe. He married Nan Rhodes on Oct. 8, 1942, in Hartford, Conn.Kenny grew up in Ventura and graduated from Ventura High School in 1936. He served in the Army during World War II. Kenny worked for Northern Natural Gas for 28 years until retiring.

Kenny loved hunting, fishing, trap shooting and bird watching. He enjoyed playing cards and gardening.

He was a member of the Ventura United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and a charter member of the Ventura Gun Club.

Survivors include three children, Kenneth R. Coe Jr. and his wife, Sharon, Ventura, Leila Coe, Ventura, and Les Coe and his wife, Jan, Alton; a special aunt, Ruth Coe, Grand Rapids, Minn.; four grandchildren, Kendra Coe and her special friend, John, Rochester, Minn., Kamara Dyre and her husband, Jay, Ventura, and Randi and Kati Coe, both of Alton; two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Debbie Dyre, both of Ventura; three brothers, Cecil Coe and his wife, Irene, North Branch, Minn.; Frosty Coe and his wife, Ginny, Ventura; Larry Coe and his wife, Jane, Ventura; one sister, Cleo Overgaard, Ventura; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Ted Coe; one sister, Joy Currier; and two brothers-in-law, Harold Currier and Bill Overgaard.

** Elizabeth Albrecht

MASON CITY — Elizabeth Albrecht, 85, of 4 Third St. N.W., died Monday (April 6, 1998) at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Health Care Center, Mason City, in memory of Elizabeth Albrecht.

Elizabeth Albrecht was born July 14, 1912 at Miles City, Mont., the daughter of John Chester and Blanche (Vernon) Emeny.

On Aug. 21, 1937, she married Robert O. Albrecht at St. Paul, Minn.

Elizabeth loved to knit and crochet afghans. She was an avid reader and kept a daily journal for most of her life.

She was a member of the Universal Study Club and a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Albrecht, Mason City; five children, Judith Ellingboe and her husband, Jim, Minnetonka, Minn.; Jean Brattrud and her husband, Richard, Hanlontown; John Albrecht and his wife, Gayle, Granite Falls Minn.; James Albrecht and his wife, Katherine, Eagan, Minn.; and Jeffrey Albrecht and his wife, Donna, Edina, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother.

** Clyde R. Howe

CHARLES CITY — Clyde R. Howe, 77, of 905 Eighth Street, died Sunday (April 5, 1998) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City. The Rev. Paul Forde, interim associate pastor of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City, will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Military honors will be conducted at graveside by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 until the service at the Hauser Funeral Home.

Clyde Raymond Howe was born June 20, 1920, in Pleasant Grove Township, Floyd County.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Charles City; three sons, Steven of Minneapolis, Minn., LeRoy of Maple Grove, Minn., and Paul of Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Alton Howe of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, and a grandson.

** Ralph William Trail

GARNER — Ralph William Trail, 53, of 219 58th St., Des Moines, formerly of Garner, died Sunday (April 5, 1998) at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines of a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, Des Moines, with the Rev. Claude J. Jones, officiating.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Concord Cemetery, Garner, Iowa.

Ralph William Trail was born Sept. 6, 1944 at Forest City, to William L. and Arlene V. (Upmeyer) Trail.

He moved to Des Moines from Hanlontown in 1967. He was a Vietnam veteran.

He was employed at Carroll Auto Wrecking as a sales clerk.

He is survived by his brother, Ronald Trail and his wife, Glennice, of West Des Moines; a nephew, Randy Trail, of Windsor Heights, Iowa; a niece, Deb Weidner, of Windsor Heights, Iowa; and three triplet great-nephews, Zach, Jake and Matt Trail.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

** Ida Amelia Becker

HAMPTON — Ida Amelia Becker, 92, of Hampton, died Sunday (April 5, 1998) at the Hampton Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hansell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Clevenger, officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

Ida Amelia Becker was born March 22, 1906, Dumont.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Becker, of Hansell; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grand-children; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three daughters, five sisters, and four brothers.

LAKE MILLS — Dale E. Peterson, 76, of 206 N. Washington, died Monday (April 6, 1998) at home.

** Lucena E. Truax

BRISTOW — Lucena E. Truax, 74, died Sunday (April 5, 1998) at Dows Care Center, Dows.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bristow Church of Christ with the Rev. Gerald Volk officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, rural Bristow.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont.

Lucena E. Truax was born July 7, 1923, in Parkersburg.

She is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Kriens of Tama, Shirley Johnson of Bristow, and Louise Carrison, Olathe, Kan.; and one brother, John Truax of O'Fallen, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

** Aline E. Martinek

BOONE — Aline E. Martinek, 90, of Boone, died Thursday (April 2, 1998) at the Boone County Hospital.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, April 5 at Schroeder Funeral Home, 503 Story St., Boone.

Interment of the cremated remains will be at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery, Wesley.

Aline E. Martinek was born on Jan. 9, 1908 in Wesley, to Albert and Ella (Cooper) Martinek.

She attended country school in Kossuth County, Wesley Township, Wesley, Iowa. She graduated from Algona High School at Algona, and attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls.

She had lived in Boone, Iowa since 1959, and was formerly of Knoxville.

She was a music teacher and taught at Callendar, Corwith, Knoxville, and Boone. She was a coowner of Jamco Advertising in Boone and sold advertising. She retired in 1974.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa of Iowa State Teachers College. She loved to compose music lyrics and wrote many songs for celebrations and organizations. She was an organist for the First Presbyterian Church of Boone. She played the organ for many events, weddings, parties and at the skating rink. She also designed personal greeting cards with her own artwork and wrote word search puzzles for the newspaper of Boone.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Martinek, of Wesley; her nephew, Jerald Martinek and his wife, Cindy, of Belmond; and her grandniece and nephew, Christopher and Katie Martinek, of Blemond.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece.

** Sylvin Oswald

FOREST CITY — Sylvin Oswald, 92, of Forest City, died Tuesday (April 7, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Joice, with the Rev. Steve Smith, officiating. Interment will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery, rural Joice.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City. The casket will not be open at the church.

Sylvin Pearly Oswald was born on May 9, 1905 on a farm north of Fertile, Iowa, the son of Peter E. and Alena (Berge) Oswald. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Beaver Creek Church near Joice. He attended rural school near his home and also Waldorf Academy in Forest City.

He was married to Marguerite C. Purcell on April 11, 1934 in Albert Lea, Minn.

Sylvin farmed and was a territory manager for New Idea Farm Equipment Company from 1943 to 1968 when he retired from sales.

He spent his retirement years "unretired," working east of Forest City on the home farm.

He was a member of Beaver Creek Lutheran Church and was a philanthropist to starving and needy children. He served as president of Immanuel Lutheran Congregation and as president of the Forest City Community School Board.

Sylvin is survived by two sons and their spouses, Tom and Judy Oswald, of Mason City, and Duane "Bud" and Ann Oswald, of Fayetteville, Ga.; two daughters and their spouses, Eileen and Marvin Laudner, of Minneapolis, Minn.; and Linda and Marshall Hansen, of Eagen, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grand-children; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marguerite; and a brother, Floyd Oswald. 

** Steven D. Blaas

CHICAGO, Ill. — Steven D. Blaas, 37, died Wednesday (April 1, 1998) at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago after a short illness.

A memorial service for immediate family and close friends will be held at 2 p.m. on May 9, 1998 at Lake View Funeral Home, 1458 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, Ill.

Inurnment will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa, at a later date.

Steve Blaas was born June 7, 1960 in Decorah, Iowa to Dale Blaas and Margaret (Nee Wirtz) Blaas. He grew up and attended schools in Mason City, graduating in 1978 with highest honors and several scholarships.

From the University of Iowa, Iowa City, he earned a B.S. and an M.S. in Economics and a J.D. with high honors. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and other honor societies.

After moving to Chicago, Steve worked for Vogue Fabrics, National Roofing Contractors Association and Meredith Publishing.

He also pursued an avocation in jazz piano, performing in various venues in Iowa and the Chicagoland area.

Steve is survived by his mother, Margaret Hanawalt, Hampton; grandmother, Alice Wirtz, Hampton; niece and nephew, Nicole and Adam Blaas, of Mason City; a half sister and half brother; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather, brother, and a half brother.

Memorials may be addressed to the Lyric Opera of Chicago or the Humane Society of the U.S. 

** Dale Erwin Peterson

LAKE MILLS — Dale Erwin Peterson, 76, of Lake Mills, died Monday (April 6, 1998) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Roger Dykstra and the Rev. Sara Beth Akre, officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Thompson.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills and one hour prior to services at the church.

Dale Erwin Peterson was born July 14, 1921 at Forest City.

Survivors include his children, Sharon Abendroth, Lake Mills, Judy Hengesteg, Lake Mills, and Renae Fong, of Dundee, Ore.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Mavis Roberson, of Payson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers. 

** Clara Mayer

STACYVILLE — Clara Mayer, 97, of Stacyville, died Tuesday (April 7, 1998) at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider, officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Visitation Church Hall, with a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture service.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Clara Mayer was born on Dec. 15, 1900 on a farm near Meyer, Iowa, to Nick and Helen (Blake) Huemann.

She married Raymond Mayer on Feb. 19, 1924, in Meyer, Iowa. She lived on a farm near Stacyville until 1971, when they moved to town.

Clara belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters, Christian Mothers, S.E. Country Circle and in town N.W. Circle.

She loved to crochet and enjoyed her grandchildren.

She is survived by five sons, Romanus and his wife, Alice, of Charles City, Elmer and his wife, Esther, of Pekin, Ill., Clarence of Stacyville, Darrell and his wife, Lorene, of Lockport, N.Y., and Allan and his wife, Darlene, of Adams, Minn.; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bertha Mullenbach, of Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray in 1973; three brothers; five sisters; and one daughter-in-law, Dorothy. 

** Stephen P. Kowney

ROCKWELL — Stephen P. Kowney, 85, formerly of 1536 North President, died Tuesday (April 7, 1998) at the Valley Baptist Health Center, Harlingen, Texas.

** Robert B. 'Bob' Bergland

MASON CITY — Robert B. "Bob" Bergland, 83, of 218 4th N.E., Mason City, died Monday (April 6, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 2nd St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Randy Nielson, Chaplain of Good Shepherd Nursing Home, officiating. Inurnment will be at ElmwoodSt. Joseph Cemetery.

Robert was born on August 28, 1914 in Mason City, the son of Milton and Juva (Burdick) Bergland.

He graduated from Mason City High School and then Mason City Junior College. In 1938 he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Architecture.

During World War II he served in the Army as a Buck Sergeant in the G2 military intelligence of the 13th corps headquarters. During his service to his country he received the Bronze Star.

Robert was united in marriage to Lois Hanson in May of 1943 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. After the Army he worked for 18 years with Hanson and Wagoner, assisting in the design of many area buildings including the First Methodist Church and the Surf Ballroom.

In July of 1956 he co-founded the architectural firm of Bergland and Bianco, which later became Bergland and Cram in about 1983. Robert designed many buildings for the Mason City Schools and the Community College, Forest Park Clinic and was an associate architect of the Masonic Temple and the Mason City High School. Bob also had served in the past as the Secretary/Treasurer for Good Shepherd Health Center board.

Robert is survived by his wife, Lois.

MASON CITY — Robert B. "Bob" Bergland, 83, of 218 4th N.E., Mason City, died Monday (April 6, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Robert was born on Aug. 28, 1914, in Mason City, the son of Milton and Juva (Burdick) Bergland.

He graduated from Mason City High School and then Mason City Junior College. In 1938 he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Architecture degree.

During World War II he served in the Army as a Buck Sergeant in the G2 military intelligence of the 13th corps headquarters. During his service to his country he received the Bronze Star.

Robert was united in marriage to Lois Hanson in May of 1943 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. After the Army he worked for 18 years with Hanson and Wagoner, assisting in the design of many area buildings including the First Methodist Church and the Surf Ballroom.

In July of 1956 he co-founded the architectural firm of Bergland and Bianco, which later became Bergland and Cram in about 1983. Robert designed many buildings for the Mason City schools, North Iowa Area Community College including the Administration Building, and Forest Park Clinic, and was an associate architect of the Masonic Temple and the Mason City High School. Bob also had served in the past as the Secretary/Treasurer for Good Shepherd Health Center board.

Robert is survived by his wife, Lois.

MASON CITY — Stephen P. Kowny, 85, of 1536 N. President Ave., died Tuesday (April 7, 1998) at the Valley Baptist Health Center, Harlingen, Texas.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 10:30 am Monday, April 13, at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating.

** Marion A. Ranson

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Marion A. Ranson, 79, of Springfield, died Tuesday night (April 7, 1998) at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel, 800 S. Grand West, Springfield, Ill., with the Rev. J. Gerald Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Havana.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel.

Marion A. Ranson was born July 13, 1918, in LuVerne, Iowa, the daughter of Lyle and Alice Blanshan Dillon. They preceded her in death in 1976 and 1977.

She graduated from Mason City High School in 1935, then attended Northern Iowa University in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She attended grade school in Manly, Iowa.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and 2x2 Sunday school class. She sang in the Sanctuary Choir for nearly 25 years. She worked in Sunday School Department for many years and had been a member of and circle leader in Women's Society of Christian Service. She was a member of Chapter E.S. of PEO Sisterhood. She was a member of and a soprano soloist in the Original Springfield Oratorio Society. She was also a director of music for many years at the Trinity United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Ronald Ranson; two sons, Robert Dean Ranson, of Kilbourne, Ill., and Thomas Howard Ranson, of Kentland, Ind.; a brother, Meredith L. Dillon, of Mason City, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Maxine) Lekwa, of Story City, Iowa; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to: First Untied Methodist Church Choir fund.

James Joseph Cannella was born April 3, 1943 in Mason City, son of Jerome J. and Lorraine E. (Forrett) Cannella.

He married Sylvia Brainard on May 11, 1989, in Myrtle Beach, S. C.

Jim grew up in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. He attended Mason City Junior College and graduated the University of Iowa with a Juris Doctorate in Law. He then received his MBA at the Wharton School of Finance in Philadelphia, Pa., and his CPA from the University of Illinois.

Jim worked at Price Waterhouse in Chicago as a Certified Public Accountant. Throughout the years, Jim taught at Waldorf College, Buena Vista College, and North Iowa Area Community College. He served as general manager at his family business, Cannella Wholesale.

Jim loved spending time with his family and children. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, bowling, and teaching.

He was past Board Chair and President and served as Legal Counsel and Legislative Chairman at Iowa Beer Wholesalers Association and was a member of the National Beer Wholesalers Association.

He was a Registered Lobbyist in Des Moines at the State Capital for two years, and Jim was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Cannella; two children, James and Jennifer Cannella; his father, Jerry Cannella, all of Mason City; three sisters, Judi Dale, Minneapolis, Minn., Christine Smith and her husband, Stephan, Des Moines, and Renee Lustig and her husband, Tom, Mason City; his parents-in-law, John Brainard and Shirley Brainard, both of Postville; three aunts; one uncle; six nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and his grandparents.
