** Frank Holt

MASON CITY — Frank Holt, 83, of Mason City, died Tuesday (June 30, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E.

** Nellie Muhm

KANAWHA — Nellie Muhm, 96, of Kanawha, died Tuesday (June 30, 1998) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Ewing-Dugger Funeral Chapel in Kanawha.

** Glen J. Amosson

CLEAR LAKE — Glen J. Amosson, 88, of Clear Lake, died Monday (June 29, 1998) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen and the Rev. Dean Hess officiating, followed by interment at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be made to The Clear Lake Senior Citizens or Opportunity Village.

Glen was born April 12, 1910, at Renwick, Iowa, son of Amos and Julia (Jurgenson) Amosson.

He married Agnes Ulstad on Jan. 14, 1933, in Sioux City, Neb. They moved south of Clear Lake where they farmed. Glen and Agnes moved into their present home in Clear Lake in 1975, but continued to help his sons on the farm.

He enjoyed going down to the Senior Citizens center to play cards, shooting pool and fishing with his boys. Time spent with his family was very important to Glen.

Glen was a former member of the FHA board, Zion Lutheran Board of Trustees, Burchinal Elevator Co-op Board for 25 years, Mt. Vernon Township Trustee, Farmers Co-op Gas & Oil Board, Mason City, Iowa, Clear Lake Senior Citizens (board past present) and past Farm Bureau president.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes Amosson, of Clear Lake, Iowa; three sons, Roger Amosson and his wife, Barbara, of Clear Lake, Iowa, Ron Amosson and his wife, Susan, of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Bob Amosson and his wife, Patricia, of Rockwell, Iowa; one brother, Orville Amosson and his wife, Ann, of Ottumwa, Iowa; one sister, Rozella Anderson and her husband, Clifford, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren, Vicky Bertz, Susan Finnegan and her husband, Mike, Amy Pierce and her husband, Jeff, Scott Amosson and his wife, Vonnie, Jeremy Amosson and Aaron Amosson; eight great-grandchildren, Jenny Bertz, Sarah Bertz, Chris Finnegan, Patrick Finnegan, Nicholas Pierce, Meg Pierce, Whitney Dye and Colby Dye.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gladys Jotten and Bertha Hansen; and six brothers, Sam Amosson, Eddy Amosson, Harold Amosson, Duane Amosson, Donald Amosson and Richard Amosson.

** Blanche Polsdofer

SWALEDALE — Blanche Polsdofer, 95, of Swaledale, died Tuesday (June 30, 1998) at the Belmond Care Center, Belmond.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

** Jim L. Jones

MASON CITY — Jim L. Jones, 48, of Mason City, died Tuesday (June 30, 1998) in a hospital in Marshalltown.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

** Scott Ross Goslin

HIAWATHA — Scott Ross Goslin, 45, of 1255 Lyndhurst Drive, and a former resident of Mason City, died Monday (June 29, 1998) at his residence following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with Father Phil Gibbs officiating. Inurnment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave. N.E., Cedar Rapids.

He was born Dec. 23, 1952, in Detroit, Mich., and was married to Doreen Driscoll on May 24, 1975, in Cedar Rapids. Scott was a 1970 graduate from Regis High School and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1975.

He was a probation-parole officer with the Iowa State Department of Corrections for the last three years and was associated with Tanager Place for 18 years prior.

He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church.

Surviving is his wife, Doreen; daughter, Sara Goslin of Urbandale; a son, Jason, of San Antonio, Texas; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Fred Goslin, of Panama City, Fla.; a brother, Lt. Col. Mark Goslin from Korea; and a sister, Dr. Teri Goslin, of Globe, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

** Randie Gene Johnson

MARBLE ROCK — Funeral services for Randie G. Johnson, 44, of 1640 285th St., Marble Rock, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 1998, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marble Rock, with Pastor John Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Reid’s Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock where there will be a public Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Randie Gene Johnson was born May 26, 1954, at Franklin County General Hospital in Hampton, a son of Andie and Marvel Jean (Winfield) Johnson, and died Monday (June 29, 1998) at his home in Marble Rock of congestive heart failure.

He received his education in the Rudd, Rockford and Marble Rock public schools, graduating in 1973. As a young man, he worked on the family farm west of Marble Rock and later farmed on his own and raised dairy cattle.

On July 12, 1980, he was united in marriage to Janice Ann Wells at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford. To this union were blessed three children. The marriage ended in 1995.

Randie was employed by Armour Foods in Mason City from 1984 to 1989 and later worked for Wood Harbor Molding in Mason City. He drove school bus for the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock School District for the last six years and delivered the Look and Shop Shopper on the rural routes.

His interests included going to auctions, drinking coffee at the Breaktime and Clanceys II and watching college basketball and NFL football on television.

Randie was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marble Rock where he served on the church council and worked on the Marble Rock Fund Days Committee. He was always willing to help whenever help was needed.

He will be sadly missed by his three children, Rebbeca Ann, Bradley Gene and Brandon Lee, all of Marble Rock; their mother, Janice, of Sioux City; two sisters, Cathy Mae Kruse and her husband, Gary Schmidt, of Marble Rock, and Georgene and her husband, Jim Johnson, of Allison; one brother, David and his wife, Kathleen Johnson, of Riceville; his nieces and nephews, Andrew Kruse, Gary Schmidt Jr., Russel, Michael, Matthew, Melissa and Mark Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Eugene, Dennie and Terry Johnson.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Randie Johnson Memorial Fund in care of the family.

** Virginia Sankey

GARNER — Virginia Sankey, 82, of Garner, died Monday (June 29, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Eldora Virginia Sankey, the daughter of Howard and Rebecca (Propst) Lowman, was born Jan. 7, 1916, at Brownsville, Texas. She moved with her family to a farm northwest of Algona where she attended the rural schools

On Oct. 11, 1933, she was married to Delbert H. Sankey at Lotts Creek, Iowa. They farmed north of Hoberton, west of LuVerne, and in 1938 moved west of Garner.

In 1953, they moved into Garner where they operated a trucking business until 1968. Virginia operated Sankey’s New & Used Furniture Store from 1969 to 1981.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting and her doll collection. She was a member of the Birthday Club.

She is survived by her husband, Delbert H. Sankey, of Garner; two sons, Eugene Sankey and his wife, Marie, of Garner, and Bruce Sankey and his wife, Betty, of Garner; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Perry Lowman and his wife, Marie, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Howard Lowman, of Algona; a sister, Nellie Kern, of Algona; and a sister-in-law, Irene Lowman, of Albert Lea, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Cecil Lowman.

** Robert Carson

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Robert Carson, 80, the owner and manager of radio station KSMN in Mason City from 1947 to 1956, died Sunday (June 28, 1998) in Alexandria, Va. He built the radio station and put it on the air following his service in World War II as an Army artillery officer.

Born in Des Moines, Mr. Carson attended Drake University there and graduated from Columbia University in New York City.

He moved to Winter Park, Fla., in 1957, where he operated a company which produced several hundred documentary films for business and industry as well as state and local governments.

In the 1970s, he became a real estate broker, operating his own firm which specialized in commercial transactions. In 1991, Mr. Carson moved to Alexandria, Va.

His wife, the former Sylvia Cohen, was a graduate of Mason City High School. She was active in civic organizations here and in Florida. Mrs. Carson died in 1982, and a son, Roger, died in 1989.

Survivors include one son, Mike, of Alexandria, Va.; and a daughter, Julie.

** Lillie Alma Slattum

KENSETT— Lillie Alma Slattum, 101, died Monday (June 29, 1998) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer G. (Sam) Hernes officiating. Burial will be in the Kensett Cemetery.

Visitation was held on Tuesday at Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. S., Northwood, and one hour prior to the service time today at the church.

Lillie Alma Slattum was born on June 21, 1897, in Cornith Township near Humboldt, the daughter of Lars and Mary (Thompson) Wogen. She was baptized and reaffirmed her faith through confirmation in the Lutheran Church near Humboldt. She received her education in the Cornith Township rural country school.

After completing her schooling, she moved to Joice in 1918, first living with her brother and then her parents moved to her home in 1920. She was united in marriage to Clarence Slattum on Oct. 26, 1921, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1961. After their marriage, they farmed west of Joice, moving to Kensett in 1951. While living in rural Joice, school teachers lived in their home.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading, camping and going places with her family and friends.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, Martha Circle, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice.

Left to cherish her memory are six children, Cecil Slattum and his wife, Barbara, of Richardson, Texas, Verna Skellenger and her husband, Floyd, of Northwood, Richard Slattum of Joice, Darrel Slattum and his wife, Mary, of Mason City, Shirley Chodur and her husband, Kenneth, of Kensett, and Norma Alvey and her husband, Jerry, of Lake Mills; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Charlotte Tweed of Minneapolis, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Clemens Burke of Fort Dodge; and one sister-in-law, Merna Wogen of Missouri; and other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, four grandchildren, 11 brothers and sisters, and a daughter-in-law.
