** Katherine L. Moore

ALGONA — Katherine L. Moore, 94, of Algona, died Friday (July 10, 1998) at the Good Samaritan Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Willis Nicholson officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Harris Funeral Home, Algona, where other arrangements are incomplete.

** Harry O. Vick

MASON CITY — Harry O. Vick, 94, of 804 N. Madison Ave., died Friday (July 10, 1998) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

** Velma I. Adams

MASON CITY — Velma I. Adams, 89, of Mason City, died Tuesday (July 7, 1998) at Casa Grande, Ariz.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mason City.

Memorials may be given to the NIACC Foundation or the Dr. J. E. Christopherson Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Dr. Carroll O. and Velma Adams Memorial Scholarship Fund in her memory.

Other arrangements are incomplete at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

** Mary E. Webb

ALGONA — Mary E. "Betty" Webb, 81, of 2221 E. McGregor St., Algona, died Thursday (July 9, 1998) at Kossuth Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, with the Rev. Douglas Hoag officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, and will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday.

Mary E. "Betty" Webb was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Orchard.

She is survived by one son, Gary Webb, of Roland; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Margaret Ernst, of North Brook, Ill., Norma Herring, of Manning, S.C., Lynda Porter, of North Las Vegas, Nev., Florence Radtke, of Muskegon, Mich., and June White, of Nashville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers.

** Harold O. Stephens

CHARLES CITY — Harold O. Stephens, 81, of 811 Eighth Ave., formerly of Mason City, died Thursday (July 9, 1998) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church, Charles City, with the Rev. J. Larry Vallery and the Rev. Debra Lincoln officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the New Hampton Cemetery, New Hampton.

Visitation was held Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., and there will be further visitation one hour prior to services today at the church.

Harold Oscar Stephens was born Jan. 9, 1917, in New Hampton.

Survivors include his wife, June Stephens, Charles City; two daughters, Janice Saunders, Charles City, and Joyce Kirkendall, of Saukville, Wis.; one son, Gerald Stephens, of Trenton, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Penny Webster, Charles City, and Mary Peshak, of Plymouth; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.

The family suggests memorials be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa at Charles City.

** Alice A. Borton

CLEAR LAKE — Mrs. Alice A. Borton, 86, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday (July 8, 1998) at the Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kathy Graves, chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Alice was born Sept. 30, 1911, in rural Ventura, Iowa, the daughter of John C. and Maude (Thomas) Grell. She graduated from Ventura High School in 1929 as class valedictorian.

Alice worked in the community following school. She married Miles C. Borton on June 26, 1934, in Garner, Iowa. They farmed in the Ventura and Clear Lake area. She had lived her entire life in the Ventura and Clear Lake area.

Alice was the manager of the Clear Lake Rexall Drug under the ownership of A.E. Peterson.

She enjoyed reading, being a creative cook, living on the farm and most of all her husband, Miles, and her children and grandchildren.

Alice was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Iowa, and was active with her church circle, the Sing and Sew Club, the Rural Lakettes Club and the Golden Wedding Jubilee Club of North Iowa.

Alice is survived by a son, Ronald M. Borton, of LaPorte City; and one daughter, Nadine E. Paullus and her husband, Fred J., of Mason City; four grandchildren, Nancy Bathen and her husband, Richard, LaPorte City; Boyd Borton and his wife, Julie, Waterloo; Isaac Borton, Anamosa, and Molly Paullus, Iowa City; two great-grandchildren, Melissa and Zachary Bathen, LaPorte City; four sisters, Nettie Zook, Clear Lake, Ruby Barlow, Clear Lake, Mildred Caffrey, McIntire, Iowa, and Corie Spurrier, Garden City, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1987; and two brothers, Walter and Carl Grell.

** Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Helen Huber

ROCKWELL — Elizabeth "Liz" Helen Huber, 17, of 403 Fourth St. S., Rockwell, died Thursday (July 9, 1998) at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm St. E., Rockwell, with the Rev. Stephen Meyer and the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rockwell.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, with a Scriptural prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.

Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Helen Huber was born July 24, 1980, in Mason City, daughter of Lynn and Nancy (Mills-Glaspey) Huber.

Liz was going to be a senior at Rockwell High School being involved in chorus and was a basketball cheerleader.

She loved music, dancing and singing. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends and playing with her niece and nephew. She worked at the Rockwell Care Center.

Survivors include her parents, Lynn and Nancy Huber, Rockwell; two brothers, Jacob Huber, Mason City, and Samuel Huber, Rockwell; three sisters, Rickie Glaspey and Bob Nash, Milwaukee, Wis., Janel Weaver and her husband, Cory, Dougherty, and Ruth Huber, Mason City; one niece, Cailey Weaver, Dougherty; one nephew, Zachary Nash, Milwaukee, Wis.; her grandparents, Jim Mills and his wife, Agnes, Cedar Rapids, Ethel Huber, Mason City and Helen Glaspey, Mason City; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Shirley Mills, Parnell Huber and John Glaspey; one uncle and one cousin.

** Dorene Sophia Abrahams

OWATONNA, Minn. — Dorene Sophia Abrahams, 72, died Friday (July 10, 1998) at the Rice County District 1 Hospital, Faribault, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Giles Zimmer officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Michaelson's Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Dorene Sophia Abrahams was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Claremont, Minn., the daughter of Walter and Alice (Wigant) Behne. She graduated from Claremont High School. Following high school she was united in marriage to Carl Abrahams on March 7, 1945, at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna. The couple lived in the Owatonna area, living in surrounding communities, and then returned to Owatonna. Dorene was a day care provider for 27 years. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Dorene enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, gardening and canning, and she loved to play cards.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Abrahams; children, Diane (Stan) Harrison of Clear Lake, Dale (Mary) Abrahams of Owatonna, Dennis (Dianne) Abrahams of Houston, Texas, Carol Jean (Chuck) Hallanger of Peoria, Ariz., Darrell Abrahams of Owatonna, and Cindy Abrahams of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Brian (Brenda) Harrison, Chad (Jen) Harrison, Paul Abrahams, Jacyln Abrahams, Julie Abrahams, Nathan Abrahams, Allison Abrahams, and Kyle Abrahams; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Mary) Behne of Kasson, Minn., and Ronald (Bonnie) Behne of Kingman, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

** Karen L. Terrell

HAMPTON — Karen L. Terrell, 59, died Friday (July 10, 1998) at Franklin General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jon Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

Karen L. Terrell was born July 13, 1938, in Thornton.

Survivors include three daughters, Julie Hicks of Miami, Fla., Judy Peerless of Grayson, Ga., and Laurie Sharpe of Cumming, Ga.; one son, Hugh Terrell II of Groton, Conn.; her mother, Marie Watermiller of Hampton; two sisters, Eleanor Ahlstrom of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Shirley Drefs of Corsica, S.D.; two brothers, Archie Watermiller of Dodge City, Kan., and David Watermiller of Cedar Crest, N.M.; and 12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

** Lenore Minnie LaBelle Linda

RICEVILLE — Lenore Minnie LaBelle Linda, 74, died Friday (July 10, 1998) at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (July 25, 1998) at the Riceville United Methodist Church. Lindstrom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lenore Minnie LaBelle Linda was born April 15, 1924, at Bailey.

Survivors include her husband, Rex, of Riceville; two sons, Alan Linda of New York Mills, Minn., and Mark Linda of Waterloo; one daughter, Dianne Doss of Hereford, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

HAMPTON — Vernice E. Kelly, 82, died Friday (July 10, 1998) at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hampton, with the Rev. Gerald Condon officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Church Cemetery, Dougherty.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, where a Scripture service will be held at 4 p.m.

Vernice E. Kelly was born Jan. 3, 1916, in Franklin County.

She is survived by one sister, Doris Knueppel of Hampton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and two sisters.

HAMPTON — Alpha Arminta Robinson, 96, died Saturday (July 11, 1998) at Franklin General Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Open Bible Church in Hampton. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Pittsville, Wis.

There will be no visitation. Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alpha Arminta Robinson was born Sept. 11, 1901, in Fenton, Ill.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin Robinson, of Hampton; two daughters, Donna Parker of Hampton and Joyce Noble of Winnetka, Calif.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

CLEAR LAKE — Helen Louis Hermann, 89, of Clear Lake, died Friday (July 10, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Des Moines, with Monsignor Joseph Slepicka and the Rev. Remigius Okere as co-celebrants. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Des Moines.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Grandview Park Funeral Home, 3211 Hubbell Ave., Des Moines. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 Second St. S.E., Mason City, or St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.

Survivors include a daughter, Faith Mary Shaw of Des Moines; four sons, Franz Hermann and Rolla Hermann, both of Des Moines, Dennis Hermann of Arlington, Texas, and Jack Hermann of Chula Vista, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Harry was born June 17, 1904, in Calmar, the son of Erick and Henrietta (Hegtvedt) Vick. He graduated from Decorah High School.

Harry married Pearl H. Hyberger on Nov. 6, 1926, in Decorah. He was employed by Northwestern Portland Cement Company for 50 years, retiring in 1969. Harry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Benevolence Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M. and High Twelve. He was a 70-year member of the I.O.O.F., past president of the North Iowa Credit Union and was an avid golfer.

Harry is survived by two sisters, Alice Boehm of Decorah and Carolla Vick of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Alvin Vick of Decorah; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Pearl, who died during 1992, three brothers and two sisters.

MASON CITY — Lillian Neu, 93, died Sunday (July 12, 1998) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

** Glenn Charles Richards

CARPENTER — Glenn Charles Richards, 78, died Saturday (July 11, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be at the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Masonic rites will be held at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Glenn Charles Richards was born May 20, 1920, on a farm near Otranto in Mitchell County, the son of Clinton L. and Mary (Whitcomb) Richards. He attended Otranto schools and graduated from Otranto High School in 1939. He attended Iowa State University in Ames.

On June 3, 1943, he was united in marriage to Leona Havig at her family home in Osage. They farmed 22 years in Mitchell County. In 1965, he started working for Amoco Fertilizer Company in Carpenter and was employed as plant manager until his retirement in 1981. He continued to work part-time at the fertilizer plant until his death.

Glenn joined the Masonic organization in 1941 as a member of the Osage Lodge 102. He continued his advancement until he received the Knights of the York Cross of Honor, and received the Honorary 33rd Degree of the York Rite.

Glenn was mayor of Carpenter for 27 years, having never officially run for the office, being elected each time by write-in vote. He was fire chief in Carpenter for many years. He served as chairman of the Community Center project that included restoration of the school gym. He received the State of Iowa Outstanding Leadership Award. He was a former member of NIACOG and a member of Osage Masonic Lodge 102 A.F. & A.M. Glenn was a master woodworker and enjoyed doing fretwork.

He is survived by his wife, Leona Richards of Carpenter; two daughters, Nancy Minnis and her husband, Leland, of Riceville, and Kathy Schulz and her husband, Delbert, of Warrenville, Ill.; one son, Lynn Richards and his wife, Janet, of Des Moines; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ellen Lenz.

** Orval Claude Miller

MASON CITY — Orval Claude Miller, 82, of rural Mason City, died Sunday (July 12, 1998) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Plymouth, with the Rev. Richard Pippert officiating. Burial will be in the Bohemian Cemetery with military graveside honors performed by members of Edward Tosel American Legion Post 110 of Manly.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.

Orval Claude Miller was born on Nov. 23, 1915, in rural Plymouth, the son of Steve and Mary (Chladek) Miller. He received his formal education in the Plymouth schools.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army in November 1941 and served overseas in France and North Africa in the European Theater during World War II until his honorable discharge.

He was united in marriage to Delores Shaver on Nov. 12, 1950, in Hampton, and to this union one daughter, Roxanne, was born.

Orval was employed as a heavy equipment operator for many years by Western Construction, E.M. Deusenberg Construction and Gjellefald Construction until his retirement in 1980.

He enjoyed gardening, repairing cars, fishing, the outdoors and animals, and was always willing to help others.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plymouth and the Plymouth Senior Citizens Center.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Delores Miller of Mason City; one daughter, the Rev. Dr. Roxanne Miller Sinclair and her husband, the Rev. Ed Sinclair of Clinton, Ill.; two grandchildren, Maria and Cristina Sinclair of Clinton, Ill.; two sisters, Kathryn Wise of Mason City and Vivian Dahl of Winterset; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, three sisters and one brother.

He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

** Ila Bessman

DOWS — Ila Bessman, 74, of rural Dows, died Sunday (July 12, 1998) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Popejoy, with the Rev. Paul Smith of the United Methodist Church, Geneva, officiating. Burial will be at the Northlawn Memorial Gardens, Iowa Falls.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, with the family receiving friends between 6 and 8 p.m.

Ila Jean Babcock was born May 25, 1924 at Racine.

Survivors include her husband, Harry R. Bessman, of rural Dows; five sons, Edgar G. Allen, of Palmer Lake, Colo., Terry J. Allen, of Palmer Lake, Colo., Wylie L. Allen, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bill D. Allen, of Ackley, and Ilo "Jon" Allen, of Hornick; one daughter, Twyla Crawford, of Kamrar; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace I. Couvelha, of Marysville, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, one sister, and three brothers.

** Lillian A. Neu

MASON CITY — Lillian A. Neu, 95, of Mason City, died Sunday (July 12, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill and Monsignor Joseph A. Slepicka, officiating. Burial will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. with a Holy Family Guild/Parish Rosary at 4 p.m., followed by a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Miss Neu was born May 26, 1903 at Charlotte, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Mary Ann (Determan) Neu. She moved with her parents to Lawler, Iowa, where she graduated from high school.

Later she moved to Mason City and taught at rural schools in Cerro Gordo County. After attending Drake University, she taught junior high school classes at North Central School in Manly.

She was a member of the National, State and Local Teacher's Organizations.

She loved her family and her friends and especially enjoyed carrying on through her correspondence, visits and friendships with many of her former students.

Miss Neu was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church for over 60 years and a member of the St. Veronica's Circle of the Holy Family Ladies Guild.

She is survived by one brother, Vincent J. Neu, of Bettendorf; and two sisters, Margaret Patterson and Catherine Hughes, both of Mason City; one nephew; and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one niece and a nephew.

** Paul F. Cremer

NEW HAMPTON — Paul F. Cremer, 80, of New Hampton, died Saturday (July 11, 1998) at his home from injuries in an accident.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton with the Rev. Carl Schmitt, officiating. Ann Bennett will be organist and accompany cantor Colleen Busta and the St. Joseph Resurrection Choir. Hymns will include "Here I Am Lord," "On Eagles Wings," "Amazing Grace" and "Happy The Man." Paul's children will place the pall. His grandchildren will serve as gift bearers and lectors.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with his grandchildren, Julie Winter, Michael Cremer, Andrew Cremer, Ryan Winter, Jacob Cremer and Katherine Cremer serving as casket bearers.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Conway Funeral Home, in New Hampton, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service.

Paul F. Cremer was born Dec. 10, 1917 at Festina, the son of John and Mathilda (Holthaus) Cremer. He attended school in Festina and was married to Dorothy R. Beer on Aug. 25, 1941 at Ossian.

They made their home near New Hampton where they farmed for 49 years. Paul enjoyed his family and friends and was interested in current issues.

He was active in the Chickasaw County Republican Party.

Paul is survived by two daughters, June and Charles Gebel, of New Hampton, and Sharon and Don Winter, of Lawler; two sons, Steven and Patsy Cremer, of Cedar Falls, and Keith and Theresa Cremer, of Mason City; six grandchildren, Julie and Ryan Winter, Andy and Kate Cremer and Michael and Jacob Cremer; and one brother, Leander Cremer, of Calmar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy on Dec. 18, 1997; four brothers, Alfred, Francis, Victor and Greg Cremer; and three sisters, Rita Cremer, Marie Rothmeyer and Nora Vondersitt.

MASON CITY — Marion E. Horvath, 76, of 630 Briarstone Drive, died Tuesday (July 14, 1998) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Highway 18 and Clark Street, Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with a Scripture wake at 7 p.m. and further visitation one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

OSAGE — Blanche Griga, 85, of Osage, died Monday (July 13, 1998) at Faith Home, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ansgar Baptist Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Gary Gonnerman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

CLEAR LAKE — Joseph Frank Weiner, 48, died Monday (July 13, 1998) at his home, Executive Cottage at Opportunity Village, Clear Lake.

Visitation and memorial services will begin today at 1:30 p.m. at Opportunity Village, 1200 N. Ninth St. W., Clear Lake.

Further visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 551 S. Taft Ave., Mason City, with a scriptural prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 First Ave. N.W., Rockford, with the Rev. Roger Katz and Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Frank Weiner was born June 8, 1950, in Charles City, son of Frank J. and Ann (Cooling) Weiner. Joe attended school in Floyd and then was the first resident at Comprehensive Systems in Charles City.

In 1974, he moved to Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, where he was presently serving as mayor of the village.

Joe loved spending time with his family and he enjoyed being involved in the family business at Cartersville Elevator. Joe also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his many friends.

Survivors include his parents, Frank and Ann Weiner, Nora Springs; two sisters, Janet Hanig and her husband, Frank, Cartersville, and Barb Rooney and her husband, Larry, of Rockford; three brothers, Gary Weiner and his wife, Sheryl, of Cartersville, Dick Weiner and his wife, Barb, of Nora Springs, and Steve Weiner and his wife, Jill, of Portland; two grandmothers, Kathryn Weiner, of Rockwell, and Aileen Cooling, of Mason City; 19 nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins, and his special family at Opportunity Village.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Frank Weiner Sr. and Francis Cooling; one nephew, Adam Hanig; and one sister-in-law, Judene Weiner.

ALGONA — Lorene Caroline Johnson, 90, of 421 W. McGregor St., died Monday (July 13, 1998) at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona, with the Rev. Doug Hoag officiating. Interment will be in the East Lawn Cemetery, Algona.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, and will continue after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Lorene Caroline Johnson was born June 1, 1908, in Lincoln, Ill.

Survivors include three daughters, Maxine Haas, of Burt, Karen Gardner, of LuVerne, and Bev Cink, of Algona; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Stoll, of LuVerne.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sons.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church, Corwith, with the Rev. Linda Hansen Bibb officiating. Interment will be in the Corwith Cemetery, Corwith.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. Eastern Star service conducted by the Algona Chapter No. 68 O.E.S.

Lillian F. Chambers was born Feb. 2, 1906, at Davenport.

Survivors include her husband, Earl, of Corwith; three children, Norman Chambers, of Corwith, Carol Smith, of Clear Lake, and Nancy Weber, of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vonis Coverdell, Decatur, Ga., and Rita Hayes, of Knoxville; and two brothers, Edward Wagner, of Knoxville, and Kenneth Wagner, of Kanawha.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one son, one granddaughter, one brother and three sisters.

** Virginia R. Peters

OELWEIN — Virginia R. Peters, 78, of 800 Fifth St. S.E., Oelwein, died Monday (July 13, 1998) at Grandview Care Center, after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Paul Peters officiating. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fairbank.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service.

The family requests memorials for tree planting or improvements for Jakway Park.

Virginia was born May 18, 1920, in Oelwein, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Fortier) Thiele.

She was united in marriage to Robert Peters on Aug. 12, 1939, in Oelwein.

She had lived eight years in Oelwein and had formerly lived in Mason City, Cedar Rapids and Jakway Park where they worked for Buchanan County Conservation.

She had worked as head of the hot lunch program for Sacred Heart School in Oelwein and St. Joseph’s School in Mason City, and also had worked for the Buchanan County Conservation.

Survivors include her husband, Robert, of Oelwein; two sons, Bobby Peters and his wife, Dixie, of Greenwood, Ind., and Bill Peters and his wife, Nancy, of Solon; one daughter, Carol Hamand and her husband, Lenard, of Nora Springs; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Julie Hellmer, of Oelwein, and Dot Courson, of Hemet, Calif.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary; two brothers, Eugene and Frederick; and two grandsons.
